ITT – The end of the school year in Scotland has come. Yet about 16 of the students are not going to take any exams. Instead, they will participate in a new learning program and exams don’t exist.
They are the students of Drumduan School – co-founded by actress Tilda Swinton.
Here, the students don’t have to follow the traditional way of studying nor any exam stress or pressure neither have to follow the traditional way of studying nor suffer any stress or pressure from examinations because exams don’t exist. They don’t even have tables.
The first class of the day is a Tai Chi style P.E session. In the science class, the students can learn how to build wooden ships or cooking.
The school principle – Mr. Krzysztof Zajaczkowsk – says, the purpose of this learning program is to “unleash the real potential” of each and every child.
“What we want is to expand this, giving the youth the opportunity to build the capacity of recovery, bravery, life skills as well as learning skills.”
Scarlett Winter, 18 years old – a school girl who wishes to build herself a career in Art her career in Art – says: “I feel like I’m coming back to life again. I am now wholly fostered, it’s not like ever before when I have to live under the pressure in an environment that I stood out too much.”
Mr. Zajaczkowsk admitted that it takes time to change one’s perspective. Besides, the demand for this newly born program is increasing everyday. Specifically, there will be 20 new participants to join this program where exams don’t exist.
