The rate of admission to American universities is super low

ITT – In more than 57,000 submissions, Harvard University received only 3.4% – a super low. Similarly, Columbia University and MIT only received 3.7-4% of the candidates in the rate of admission to American universities.

In early April, US universities received a spike in applications. Harvard University received 57,435 records from students but received only 1,968 people, equivalent to 3.4%. This number makes Harvard the most difficult school in Ivy League group this year.

Two years ago, the rate of admission to American universities of 4.6% was considered Harvard’s lowest level but has been overtaken this year. Meanwhile, the number of records received by the school increased by 43% compared to last year.

Columbia University in New York is the second most difficult school in Ivy League group. The school received 60,551 applications, but only 2,218 people were admitted, equivalent to 3.7%, down nearly 3% from the previous year.

Both receiving 4% of candidates, Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and Princeton University fell 3.3% and 1.6% respectively from the acceptance rates of last year.

In this year’s enrollment season, Yale University received only 2,169 candidates, equivalent to 4.6% of the total 46,905 applications. The number of people applying to the school increased by 33% compared to the enrollment season 2019-2020. In the year before Covid-19 happened, Yale College accepted 6.5% of the total number of applicants.

In other schools, the rate of admission to American universities are 5.7% (University of Pennsylvania), 6.2% (Dartmouth University), respectively.

In addition to the Ivy League schools, several other top universities in the US also have super low acceptance rates. Duke University (top 12 national universities) received 5.8% of the candidates, 2.3% lower than last year.

Mr. Christoph Guttentag, representative of Duke Admissions Council said: “10% of the total number of students enrolled this year were admitted to the school last year. The students have reserved the results and decided to enroll one year late. As a result, vacancies for students to apply this year have decreased year on year.”

New York University (top 10 national universities) received more than 100,000 applications but only allowed admission to 12.8%. This is also the school’s super low.

Experts say that the main reason why the number of applications applying to US universities is soaring is that many schools drop the requirement to have SAT or ACT. During Covid-19, the standardized exam was affected and hundreds of American universities, including many prestigious universities, removed these requirements.
