SAT

ITT – SAT is a standardized exam used for admissions to U.S. universities. In addition to the TOEFL or IETLS certificates, foreign students wishing to attend college in the United States must demonstrate their ability through the SAT and students need to be well prepared for the SAT preparation.

The structure of the SAT exam is as follows:

SAT I (SAT Reasoning)

  • Examination time: 3 hours, including Reading and writing based on available data (100 minutes), Math (80 minutes) and an optional essay (50 minutes).
  • Total score: 400 – 1600 (200 to 800 points each).

SAT II Subject (SAT Subject Test)

  • Examination time 3 hours, including 3 subjects (60 minutes each) and an optional essay (50 minutes).
  • Candidates select 3 of the 22 subjects: English, Literature, History (American History, World History), Mathematics (Mathematics 1, Mathematics 2), Biology, Chemistry, Physics, Foreign Languages (Chinese, French, German, Spanish, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Korean …).
  • Total score: 600 – 2400 (200 – 800 points each).

SAT I is more popular but SAT II is mandatory when applying for top competitive universities such as Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Yale, Columbia, Brown, MIT … or applying for scholarship.

As a standardized test, the difficulties of the SAT preparation are inevitable:

  • The test not only requires knowledge but also the ability to reason, analyze and solve a candidate’s problem through problem-solving in Math, reading and writing skills.
  • Taking the test in English is a challenge for candidates whose mother tongue is not English.
  • Due to the limited amount of time, you will not be able to finish the exam with a well-expected score so unless you have the skills or tactics.

Therefore, to complete the SAT exam with high scores, applicants need to:

  • Build their own strategies for the exam.
  • Complete easy questions first to save time for the difficult ones.
  • Practice “skimming – scanning” skills to speed up reading with different types of text such as news or thesis.
  • Practice SAT past papers or with ACT papers which are similar.
  • Study advanced Math knowledge to be able to finish all the questions.
