The new high school curriculum is not a “boat-building”

ITT – Associate Professor Dr. Tran Kieu, former President of the Vietnam Academy of Science and Education evaluated the new high school curriculum as open in the program framework, local curriculum, education plan of each school.

For the first time, the new high school curriculum identifies the goals of developing each student’s abilities and qualities, and addresses these needs with specific solutions from teaching, learning, assessment, and building a learning environment.

According to experts, Deputy Prime Minister Vu Duc Dam asked Ministry of Education and Training to absorb and when to publish the general education program must be clarified with two major principles.

Firstly, this innovative program is open, creative, self-reliant, local, school and teachers updated regularly.

Secondly, after the publication of program, the development of textbooks, learning materials below, should be launched at the same time as the teacher movement develops lectures under new program.

At the same time, a network of experts, scientists and Program Development Board will be formed to further comment, adjust and supplement.

This is a story that many experts discuss after the professor, Dr. Nguyen Lan Dung expressed concern about the purpose of integrating some subjects in the program, especially it is difficult to train the contingent of teachers.

Former Deputy Minister of Education and Training Nguyen Vinh Hien said that integrating education has been questioned since the launch of the new high school curriculum in 2002.

Prof. Dr. Nguyen Van Minh, Rector of Hanoi University of Education, stated that with the emergence of many new interdisciplinary sciences, if still teaching single subjects, it would be difficult to build comprehensive and creative thinking for students.

Concerned with this view, associate professor, Dr. Tran Kieu, historian Duong Trung Quoc said that integration is a trend to follow.

It should pay close attention to training and fostering of teachers, preparation of material facilities, and application of science and technology to serve effectively for integrated teaching.
