Conditions to study in Canada 2020

ITT – In recent years, the number of international students choosing Canada to study abroad has been continuously increasing and there is no sign of stopping. So the conditions to study in Canada 2020 like?

According to statistics, in 2019, there are about 580,000 international students living and studying there. Vietnam is currently among the top 5 countries with a spike in student numbers in Canada.

This is also an inevitable trend because Vietnamese parents always want their children to have the best conditions for studying and living. In particular, Canada is famous for being a safe, civilized country, possessing cultural diversity, respecting differences, and young people.

The population in Canada is as rich as the United States, but racism is almost absent. Vietnamese students do not have to worry about coming to study and work in this country.

The following are the most basic conditions to study in Canada 2020:

  1. Select the school and receive an offer letter
  • DLI list

All public high schools in Canada are those on the Designated Learning Institution or DLI list, and a few private high schools have been approved for this list. Currently, this list is publicly available on official Canadian education websites. So institutions that are not on this list but still accept international students and send invitations, surely you will not be able to study.

  • Letter of Offer (LOA)

Once you have selected the desired school in the DLI list, the next step is how to get a school LOA, where schools typically have up to 3 enrollment periods:

  • Fall term (September): The deadline to receive applications ends in January and February.
  • Winter term (January): The deadline to receive applications ends in August, September, October, and November.
  • Summer term (May): Deadlines for receiving applications end in November, December, January, and February.
  1. Learning results and foreign language ability
  • Learning outcomes

At the high school level, students who only need to have average grades can apply for admission. For the undergraduate level, the standards become stricter. Schools require students to have a high school diploma, the average total score for 3 years must be in the minimum range from 6.5 to 7.0. Below this, it is very difficult to get admission to good universities in Canada.

  • Language proficiency

For proof of financial visas, students may only need IELTS 5.0. As for the SDS visa, one of the mandatory conditions is that IELTS must be 6.0 and have no skill below 6.0.

  1. Student visa
  • Visa financial proof

Proof of financial documents often includes proof of income, payroll, tax papers, business license, real estate papers, car registration, business accounts… The most important set of financial records is to prove the family’s employment and stable income.

  • Canadian SDS student visa

In the years 2016-2017, international students benefited from the CES visa program – replacing financial proofs with guaranteed investment certificates (GIC). However, by mid-2018, the CES program stopped, replaced with a new preferential visa program called SDS (Study Direct Stream). Vietnam is fortunate to be among the four countries that apply for SDS priority visa. To be able to study abroad on this visa, you must have a minimum IELTS 6.0 and no skill below 6.0.

  1. Study Permit

Only schools on the DLI list can be granted Study Permit. Study Permit is not obtained from Vietnam but only after completing immigration procedures at a Canadian airport. The necessary documents to bring with you to get Study Permit at Canadian Customs Checkpoints include:

  • Passport (with visa).
  • Letter of acceptance from the Embassy of Canada (LOI).
  • LOA from the registered school.
  1. Health conditions

Conditions to study in Canada 2020 do not limit the age of international students to study. However, regardless of your age, you still need good health to ensure your studies and living in Canada. If a student is infected with infectious diseases that can spread in the community such as HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis, leprosy, other sexually transmitted diseases… the visa’s failure to fail is very high.
