SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is a standardized exam for students from grade 5 to 11 to study secondary and high school in US. The exam is built and managed by the Secondary School Admission Test Board (SSATB). SSAT is designed to assess the ability of students in some important subjects. The result of SSAT exam is an important aspect in admission process at competitive and famous secondary as well as high schools in US.
First of all, about exam level, SSAT has 3 levels:
- Grade 3-4: SSAT Elementary Level Test.
- Grade 5-7: SSAT Middle Level Test.
- Grade 8-11: SSAT Upper Level Test.
Although the structures of Middle and Upper Level exams are similar, question forms used for Upper Level are difficult than other parts.
This exam lengthens in 2 hours 35 minutes for Middle and Upper Level Test with 2 short breaks. Each of SSAT exam paper includes multiple-choice questions divided into 4 parts to mark and an essay part (no mark). Math ability assessing insists of 25 questions (2 parts) extending in 30 minutes. 60 questions of English vocabulary part need to complete within 30 minutes. For reading comprehension, candidates will be provided 7 paragraphs and 40 questions for each paragraph with 40 minutes to read, analyze and answer the question. Finally, candidates have to complete writing essay part in within 25 minutes (without marking).
Each question has similarly score range. A correct answer will get 1 point. A wrong one will be subtracted 0.25 point. Candidates won’t be subtracted if they miss a question. SSAT exam provides both numerical and numeral and percentage for each candidate.
SSAT exam has been held seven times a year: October, November, December, January, February, March, April and June at American Education Group in both Ha Noi and HCMC. If students get high mark in SSAT exam, it’s surely to get entrance to study at private schools in US. SSAT is same as other assessment exams, if you practice regularly, you can fully achieve desired score.
