In the future, good universities will run like businesses

ITT – Accordingly, good universities don’t credit as universities, but will run like businesses.

In the new book “Phenomenology from Finland”, Professor Kirsti Lonka, a Psychology professor at University of Helsinki, emphasized that schools in Finland are increasingly focusing on teaching career orientation and preparation for students’ future.

Good universities should encourage students to be positive about their jobs and direct them with the necessary skills. Introducing work skills or start-ups in new school curriculum will help them know about the complex economics environment today and some technologies such as automation, artificial intelligence and robotics.

Grade 6 students in Finland even have the opportunity to start their own schooling through a new program called “Me & My City”. This program includes lessons at the school and some trips to working environment. It’s a small city where students will be directly involved in work at companies, or play the role of consumers in that miniature society.

Teemu Kokko, principal of Haaga-Helia University, said that 87% of students are working more than 20 hours a week. They are active, dynamic and contribute to the newcomer’s presence in the region. In the future, good universities will not be like the current university but will run like businesses.

Laura Teinilä, head of Career Services Department at University of Helsinki, said occupational training is often included in the curriculum of students. Students can be sent to businesses to find out, practice or participate in the project of the business.
