ITT – Chinese is not also a popular language but also a subject in the international program. What makes a good IB Chinese teacher?
Is it difficult to study Chinese?
Studying IB Chinese is much more difficult than studying ordinary Chinese. Unlike Vietnamese or English, Chinese use hieroglyphs alphabets instead of Latin alphabets. It takes a long time to remember all Chinese including 214 letters divided into 17 groups based on the number of strokes. Another challenge is that a word has different meanings depending on each situation. That’s why Chinese is considered as one of the most complex languages in the world.
Chinese in IB program has 3 levels. The first one is Ab initio for beginners. The second level is Language B for experienced learners and the highest level is Language A2 for those who use Chinese as mother language. For Language B and A2, students have a choice of studying Standard level or High level. Language and Literature is provided in A2.
