ITT – For those who have dreamt of studying overseas in US, thoroughly understanding the standardized exam is truly necessary. SAT is one of the important exams that you should figure out before starting preparation in order to achieve your dreams. So, which things to note of new SAT exam?
Beginning in 2016, new SAT exam was redesigned to focus more on analyzing and thinking skills of students, which help to improve more than what students has been learned efficiently. Thus, students can well-prepared for undergraduate programs in US.
The structure of new SAT exam consists of 3 parts: Reading and Writing (Evidence-based Reading and Writing), Math, and Writing (Essay) (graded separately and not mandatory). Things to note of the latest SAT exam as follows:
- Score: There are no penalty points. Total score is 1,600 with Math: 800, Reading – Writing: 800, Writing is not required.
- Structure:
- 1 reading and writing exam, with 65 minutes of reading and 35 minutes of language and writing.
- 1 Math exam with 55 minutes of calculator used and 25 minutes of no calculator used.
- An essay (50 minutes).
- Multiple-choice questions with 4 answers.
- Duration: 3 hours (3 hours 45 minutes if have an essay).
- Less vocabulary than: In new SAT exam, types of filling blank will be omitted. Instead, the form of questions about how to use vocabulary in context with common vocabularies.
- Mathematics: Focusing on the analysis of data, arithmetic and problem solving. Calculator is used of 37 questions and 20 questions are not used calculator. The purpose is to evaluate standard mathematical competence, which requires an advanced understanding of theories of math rule as building mathematical equation.
- Reading and writing:
- Reading: 52 questions in 65 minutes, there is no part of completing sentences, focusing on polysemy. Checking the understand of passages about American culture, history, social studies and science world.
- Writing and Language: 44 questions in 35 minutes, which focuses on grammar, including punctuation. Checking through the passages relating to professional, courteous, sociology, anthropology and sciences.
