GRE exam structure

ITT – GRE is a test to assess students’ ability to apply for postgraduate programs in natural sciences and social sciences. How to know the GRE exam structure?

Most US universities require GRE certification in the admissions profile. GRE certificates can also be used to apply for MBA and some other programs. Besides the GRE score, the school will evaluate the student’s score in the university process to be an admission criterion.

Therefore, in addition to a university degree, students need to strive for a high score in the GRE test to have more opportunities to graduate to the top US schools. In order to achieve impressive scores, students need to grasp the GRE exam structure.

GRE test consists of 2 forms: GRE General Test and GRE Subject Test. GRE 2 primarily measures students’ understanding through specific fields such as Chemistry, Biology, Mathematics, Physics, Literature in English, Psychology.

Meanwhile, GRE 1 focuses on assessing students’ thinking and reasoning skills, consisting of three parts: Verbal, Quantitative, and Analytical Writing.

  • Verbal: The exam consists of 2 parts, each of 20 questions in 30 minutes, is often evaluated as a vocabulary test, requiring you to have good reading skills and good reasoning. There are three common types of questions in this section: Sentence equivalence, Text completion, Reading comprehension.
  • Quantitative: The most difficult part of the GRE exam structure, also consists of 2 small parts, each student has 35 minutes to complete 20 questions. The content focuses on assessing students’ thinking skills and problem solving skills, around basic concepts of algebra, arithmetic and geometry.
  • Analytical Writing: The test is divided into 2 parts, each part is written within 30 minutes, used to assess the skills of rigorous reasoning, analysis skills and presenting views on a most problem determined. This requires that you, besides having a clear and coherent presentation of the text, need to have a large and complex vocabulary to make a difference.
