ITT – IB Economics is a dynamic social subject, using scientific methods including qualitative and quantitative factors. But what does IB Economics program include?
IB Economics consists of 2 levels: Standard Level (SL) and Higher Level (HL) with similar core requirements but the number of learning hours is different. So what does IB Economics program include?
This course consists of 4 sections mostly in sequence with the topics listed below:
- Section 1: Microeconomics – 35 hours for SL and 95 hours for HL.
- Section 2: Macroeconomics – 40 hours for SL and 50 hours for HL.
- Section 3: International Economics – 25 hours for SL and 45 hours for HL.
- Section 4: Development Economics – 30 hours for both SL and HL.
In particular, the topics for HL are as follows:
- Section 1: Competitive Markets: Demand and Supply, Government Intervention, Market Failure, Theory of the Firm and Market Structures.
- Section 2: Aggregate Demand and Aggregate Supply, Macroeconomic Objectives.
- Section 3: International Trade, Exchange Rates, The Balance of Payments, Economic Integration, Terms of Trade.
- Section 4: The Role of International Trade.
During the course, the students of both SL and HL need to write 3 short essays based on articles from the published media (except for radio broadcasts). Each article must be based on a different part of the curriculum (microeconomics, macroeconomics, international economics and development economics) and each essay must not exceed 750 words.
