ITT – Life is more modern, the quality of education is getting better. Therefore, many schools in our country have applied the teaching of some programs in English. But is teaching programs in English really simple?
Accepting teaching programs in English in high schools is getting many difficulties, especially due to the limited English proficiency of many teachers, even with pressure by students.
Almost teachers are teaching in public schools teach all subjects in the main language is Vietnamese, with little opportunity to improve their teaching level in English. Therefore, it is not easy for teachers and students to move from teaching in Vietnamese to teaching in English.
First, schools will have to spend a lot of time and money on improving English proficiency for teachers. Those teachers must work very hard. This makes teachers feel stress when they stand in front of classes and they also research materials by themselves.
In addition, facing difficulties from students, it’s not small. Especially for students who are studying in natural subjects, although they are very good at their major subject, their English proficiency is not sufficient to join into learning subjects in English classes. Their level of English is not equal, so they are not excited in learning these subjects. Last, there will be no results as expected.
In fact, there are still many disadvantages such as the ability of teachers. The demand for teacher recruitment can be used in foreign languages in teaching but employers are not enough. It’s still difficult for teachers to read and understand the documents about major subjects in English, lack of experience or ability to communicate in curriculum program, academic vocabulary is not high.
Many schools have stated that applying this innovative method is not really successful. Most of the teachers only have simple English skills, they can be able to hear and understand in English, so teaching programs in English is a further goal with them.
