What is SSAT?
SSAT (Secondary School Admission Test) is a standardized test for students in grades 5 to 11 who attend private secondary schools and high schools in the US. In addition, SSAT is designed to assess students’ ability in core subjects.
Along with other indicators, SSAT score is used to consider scholarships, the highest can receive scholarships over 50% of tuition, but keep in mind that at the high school level, private schools in the US do not have a policy of level 100 % scholarship.
Students should remember that the SSAT score is not a measure of academic achievement nor an indicator of creativity but focus on the skills needed for students to study in private schools, quantify and read without depending on experience and academic achievement in the classroom. SSAT exam structure
SSAT exam has 3 levels:
- SSAT Elementary Level for students in grades 3 – 4.
- SSAT Middle Level for students in grades 5 – 7.
- SSAT Upper Level for students in grades 8 – 11.
SSAT Elementary Level
- Exam time: 1 hour 50 minutes (excluding the break time).
- Including 89 multiple choice questions with 30 calculated sentences, 30 vocabulary words, and 28 reading – comprehension sentences, 1 non-scoring essay.
- Total score: 900 – 1500.
SSAT Middle Level and SSAT Upper Level
- Exam time: 2 hours 35 minutes (excluding the break time).
- Including Math (50 sentences in 2 parts), Vocabulary (30 sentences on synonyms and 30 sentences on the correlation between words), Reading – Comprehension (40 sentences based on 7 paragraphs), 1 essay no point calculation.
- Total score: 1320 – 2130 (Middle Level) and 1500 – 2400 (Upper Level).
