Math in English requires students to spend more time and effort to study if they do not want to lose basic knowledge or go backward than their friends. Math terms in English are the best supporting tool to you to study and do exercises. If you do not master basic knowledge, you can not pass the test of this subject. Here are Math terms in English that you may see regularly:

Index form | A number is expressed with exponents, or one number to a power of another, it is considered to be in index form. |
Evaluate | Form an idea of the amount, number or value of. |
Simplify | Make more simple. |
Express | Represent by a figure, symbol or formula. |
Solve | Find an answer to, explanation for, or way of heading with (a problem or mystery). |
Positive | Positive pole in Math. |
Negative | Negative pole in Math |
Equation | A statement that the values of two mathematical expressions are equal. |
Equality | A symbol expression of the fact that two quantities are equal, an equation. |
Quadratic equation | A square of the equation contains a variable as the highest exponentially. |
Root | A number or quantity that when multiplied by itself one or more times gives a specified number or quantity. |
Linear equation | An equation between two variables that gives a straight line when plotted on a graph. |
Formula | A mathematical relationship or rule expressed in symbols. |
Algebraic expression | A mathematical expression that consists of variables, numbers and operations. The value of this expression can change. |
Fraction | A numerical quantity that is not a whole number. |
Vulgar fraction | A fraction expressed by numerator and denominator, not decimally. |
Decimal fraction | A fraction whose denominator is some power of 10, usually indicated by a dot (decimal point or point) written before the numerator: as 0.4 = 4/10; 0.126 = 126/1000. |
Single fraction | Expresses only a fraction. |
Simplified fraction | A fraction is in simplest form when the top and bottom cannot be any smaller (while still being whole numbers). |
Significant figures | Refers to a number of important single digit in the coefficient of an expression in scientific notation. |
Parallel | Extending in the same direction, equidistant at all points, and never converging or diverging. |
Symmetry | A geometrical or other regularity that is possessed by a mathematical object and is characterized by the operations that leave the object invariant. |
Vertex | The highest point of something. |
Trigonometry | The mathematical process of finding the derivative of a trigonometric function, or its rate of change with respect to a variable. |
Cross-section | A cutting or piece of something cut off at right angles to an axis; also a representation of such a cutting. |
Diagonal | Denoting a straight line joining opposite corners of a rectangle, square, or other figures. |
Inequality | A symbolic expression of the fact that two quantities are not equal, employing a sign. |
